Der Anflug auf Ushuaia war etwas wacklig aber mit toller Aussicht. Für die Tage im Feuerland hatten wir uns ein AirBnB gebucht und wurden freundlicherweise von den Vermietern direkt am Flughafen abgeholt und mit den ersten Infos versorgt. Auch dieses Appartement war wieder sehr klein aber hervorragend geplant und eingerichtet. Ehrlichgesagt wissen wir gar nicht was wir zu Hause mit all dem Platz machen sollen. Auch hier wurden wir vom typischen Patagonien Wetter begrüsst. Wind, Regen, Sonnenschein – aber entgegen unserer Erwartungen war es erstaunlich warm.
Die erste Tour hatten wir hier am Sonntag geplant. Mit einem Katamaran ging es hinaus auf den Beagle Kanal. Vorbei an Kormoranen (Ich war am Anfang wirklich überzeugt das wären Pinguine…siehe Bilder), vorbei an vielen Seelöwen und dem bekannten Leuchtturm bis zur Insel Martillo wo wir Pinguine beobachten konnten – ganz klar eines meiner Highlights!
Am Montagmorgen folgte gleich das nächste. Früh ging es los Richtung Tierra del Fuego Nationalpark wo eine kurze Zugsfahrt auf uns wartete. Die 25km lange, südlichste Eisenbahn der Welt, daher auch Zug am Ende der Welt (Tren Fin del mundo) genannt, wurde zwischen 1909 und 1952 für den Materialtransport des Gefängnisses sowie den Transport des durch Häftlinge geschlagenen Holzes genutzt. Heute sind davon nur noch 7km zu touristischen Zwecken befahrbar mit einer Spurbreite von 500mm (SBB hat 1435mm). Die Fahrt endet im besagten Nationalpark, wo leider wegen des genialen Wetters die geplante Wanderung im Wasser auflöste. Wir fuhren zurück in die Stadt und genossen den Rest des Tages.
Für am Dienstag fiel leider unsere Gletschertour aus, worüber wir aber fast froh waren. Es regnete in strömen als wir aufgestanden waren. So beliessen es wir bei einem Besuch des Maritime Museum, welches im ehemaligen Gefängnis lokalisiert ist und auch eine Antarktik Ausstellung zu bieten hat. Es bot zwar viele Informationen, aber insgesamt war es etwas enttäuschend. Danach blieb uns nichts anders übrig als zurück zu kehren und wieder zu packen – für die Reise zum letzten Punkt auf unserer Reise, Buenos Aires.

The descending into Ushuaia Airport, overflying the beagle channel, was very shaky but with a good view. For our days in Fireland (Tierra del Fuego) we got ourselves an Airbnb and were picked up by our hosts at the airport and got some infos as well 😊 Also this appartement was super small but perfectly planned and set up. To be honest we have no idea anymore what we will do with the space of our flat at home. Also here we were welcomed by the typical patagonian weather. Wind, Rain and sunshine but against our expectations it was surprisingly warm. The first tour was planned for Sunday where we sailed the Beagle Channel. We passed some Cormorants (i was totally certain at first that these were Penguins – look at the pictures), we also passed sea-lions and the famous Lighthouse on our way to Martillo Island where the Penguines lived. The just observe them was for sure one of my highlights.
Monday morning was followed by the next highlight. We left early in direction of the Tierra del Fuego Nationalpark where a short train ride awaited us. A train tracks with a lenght of 25km, southern most train in the world – also called Tren del Fin del Mundo (Train at the End of the world), was used between 1909 and 1952 for the transportation of materials and cutted wood fort he prison and their inmates. As of today there are only 7km left of the tracks and the train runs for touristic purposes only – track width is 500mm (SBB has 1435mm). The ride would end in the middle of the before mentioned nationalpark, where we had to cancel our planned hike due to the absolutely fantastic weather 😉 We went back to the city and did enjoy the rest of the day.
Our glacier tour for Tuesday got cancelled but were were quite glad actually. It was raining the whole day which meant it was time to visit a museum. We went for the Maritime Museum which is located inside the old Ushuaia Prison. This museum would also offer an Antartica Part and offered a lot of information but in the end it was rather disappointing. After that we had nothing more to do than to return back to our place and pack our bags once more – for the last destination on our trip: Buenos Aires.
