Am Freitagmorgen war das Wetter endlich besser, so begaben wir uns gleich direkt an den Strand. Wir genossen die Sonne und das Meer für knappe zwei Stunden, bis sich die nächste Wolke über uns entlud. Wir packten zusammen und gingen zurück ins Hotel. Am Nachmittag, mittlerweile schien wieder die Sonne, machten wir einen Ausflug zum Nakalele Blowhole im Norden der Insel. Dies war sehr faszinierend. Ein natürliches Loch im Felsen, durch welches das Wasser bei Flut nach oben spritzt. Gleichzeitig entdeckten wir auch den Heart Shaped Rock. Ein Loch in einem anderen Felsen das die Form eines Herzes hat. Nach einigen Fotos fuhren wir zurück und machten uns einen gemütlichen Nachmittag am Kapalua Beach. Am Freitag standen dann noch die Olivine Pools, natürliche Meerwasser Pools, die leider bei Ebbe nicht wirklich erkennbar waren, und der Needle im Iao State Park auf dem Programm. Vom letzten waren wir etwas entäuscht. Der Weg zum Lookout war doch etwas gar kurz und der Needle selbst war einfach eine freistehende Felsspitze, nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Da wir noch reichlich Zeit hatten, machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Big Beach. Angeblich einer der schönsten Strände auf Maui. Nun ja, er war gross 😊 Wie am Tag zuvor wurden wir nach kurzer Zeit von einem Regenschauer erfrischt, so packten wir bald zusammen und fuhren zurück. Schliesslich war noch packen angesagt. Am Sonntag flogen wir bereits wieder weiter. Ganz unglücklich waren wir nicht, Maui zu verlassen. Hatte es für unseren Geschmack zu viele Touristen. Nach knapp 40min landeten wir bereits auf Kauai welches den zweit nässesten Ort der Welt beherbergt: Mr. Waialeale. Entgegen unserer Erwartung wurden wir jedoch vom schönsten Wetter begrüsst. Wir nahmen unser Mietauto, diesmal ein Fort Mustang Cabriolet, entgegen und fuhren zu unserem Resort. Wir schmiedeten absolut keine Pläne und schliefen einfach in den neuen Tag hinein. Da das Wetter immer noch genial war, entschlossen wir einen Beachday einzulegen und genossen die Ruhe vom Resort.

As the weather was finally better we decided to go to the beach directly. We were able to enjoy the ocean and the beach for almost two hours before the next rain came. We packed our stuff and went back tot he hotel. In the afternoon – again with beautiful sunshine – we went to see the Nakalele Blowhole on the north side oft he Island. This was very facinating. It is a natural whole on the ground of a rock trough which water splashes during high tide. At the same time we spotted the «heart shaped rock» - a whole in one of the other rocks which had the form of a heart. After a few fotos we drove back and spent the rest of the afternoon at Kapalua Beach.
On our Friday schedule we had the Olivine Pools – natural ocean pools which were unfortunately empty due to low tide – and the Iao State Park. We were a bit disappointed about the second one since the way to the loookout was super short and «the Needle» was just a self-standing rock. Not not and not less. And since we still had plenty of time we decided to drive to the Big Beach a bit more south – apparently one oft he most beautiful beaches on the island. Well yes, like the name says: it was BIG 😊And like the day before we got refreshed by some rain and packed up before leaving to the hotel again. Finally as well we had to pack our backpacks because we were going to leave Maui on Sunday. And to be honest we were not very unhappy about leaving Maui – too many tourists for our taste.
Just about after a 40min flight we landed in Kauai – which houses the second wettest spot on earth: Mt Waialeale. Totally unexpected the weather was warm and sunny. We picked up our rental car – this time a Fort Mustang convertible – and drove to our resort. We had absolutely no plans for the next day and just decided to sleep in. This Beachday was necessary – we enjoyed the rest and the beauty of this island at our resort for the full day à what a life….
