Das Hostel, Around The World Backpackers, war nicht sehr gross und wir mussten bald feststellen, dass es auch nicht das sauberste ist. Das lag wohl sicher auch daran, das es ausgebucht war, und für alle nur drei Duschen und zwei WC's (plus je eine Dusche und WC nur für Frauen) zur Verfügung stand. Für drei Nächte werden wir es aber überleben.
Nach dem Zimmer beziehen haben wir uns bald aufgemacht, um Christchurch ein erstes mal zu erkunden. Es gefiel uns von Anfang an sehr gut. Es ist nicht sehr gross, eher klein und gemütlich. Obwohl es doch rund 375'000 Einwohner. Wir fragen uns ehrlich gesagt, wo die alle wohnen. :) Die Stadt ist in einem grossen Wandel, wurde sie doch 2010 und 2011 bei starken Erdbeeben fast komplett zerstört. Somit ist alles sehr modern und vieles noch im Bau. Es gibt ein historisches Tram, welches mitten durch die Stadt fährt. Daran fand ich natürlich schnell meine Freude. Da uns der Preis für eine Fahrt aber zu hoch war, liefen wir einfach den Schienen nach. So hatten wir auch unsere Stadtrundfahrt. Allzu viel gibt es jedoch nicht zu besichtigen. Das Canterburry Museum (freier Eintritt :)) ) war aber sicher ein Besuch wert. Es ist ein Museum über die Geschichte Neuseelands, von den Ureinwohnern (den Maori), über die Antarkis Expeditionen bis hin zur Besiedelung durch die Europäer. Natürlich fehlen auch alle Hollywood Filme nicht, welche in NZ gedreht wurden. (Ja das sind einige :))
Allgemein in der Stadt wird man an vielen Orten daran erinnert, das die Antarktis nicht mehr sehr weit weg ist. Und viele Expeditionen in Neuseeland ihren Start nehmen.
Die drei Tage vergingen wie im Flug. Schliesslich war auch schon waschen angesagt und ein kurzes Treffen mit Astrid und Kandy (Karen's Eltern - 1 Teil davon.. :-p) .
Am Freitag gilt es aber nun ernst, wir dürfen unseren Camper in Empfang nehmen.. :)

The Hostel - Around The World Backpackers - was not very big and soon we notices as well that it was not the cleanest of all hostels. The reason for this could be that the hostel was fully booked and it only had 3 showers (plus one shower and toilet just for the girls). But for only 3 nights we could survive this.
After we moved into our rooms we decieded to take a walk in the City of Christchurch. We liked it from the very beginning - it is not big, rather small and cosy - even though this place has 375'000 inhabitants. To be honest we are wondering where all of those people are hiding ;). The city is in a big change due to the grave earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 - almost the whole city got destroyed. Due to that a lot of buildings are brand new and very modern. There is a historical tram which drives through the city centre. Ofc I liked this tram right away.. since the price for a ride was too much for us we decided to just follow the tracks around the main centre. Like this we also had a city tour. Thought there is not too much to see here the Canterburry Museum is a must. :) (FOC !!) It is a Museum about the history of New Zealand - starting from the Maoris, to the Antarctis Expeditions until the colonization through the europeans. Of course it is not missing all the Hollywood Movies that have been produced around this area and in whole NZ (yes there are a few movies).
In general you are being reminded in the whole city about the fact that the antactis is very close here. A lot of expeditions start from the port which is close to Christchurch on its way to Base Scott.
Three days passed by like nothing. We had to due our first laundry and met with Astrid and Kandy (Karen's Parents - well 1 part of it). But on friday it is being serious since we can pick up our camper - FINALLY.
