Der Campingplatz in Grant Village war riesig mit über 400 Stellplätzen. Die Stellplätze waren eher knapp bemessen, für unseren kleinen Camper aber einwandfrei.

Am Samstagmorgen fuhren wir dann weiter hinein in den Yellowstone Nationalpark. Unser Ziel war der Old Faithful, einer der wohl bekanntesten Geyser auf der Erde. Er bricht rund alle 90 Minuten aus und erreicht eine Höhe von bis zu 55m. Dabei werden zwischen 14'000 und 32'000 Liter kochendheisses Wasser ausgespuckt. Mittler weilen wurde rundherum eine Art Terrasse gebaut um das Spektakel beobachten zu können.

Wir erreichten den Geyser kurz nachdem er ausgebrochen war, so nutzten wir die Zeit für einen kleinen Spaziergang. Neben dem Geyser kann man noch weiter viele spannende Naturphänomene beobachten. So gibt es diverse Heisswasser Becken welchen man lieber nicht zu nahe kommt. Rechtzeitig begaben wir uns aber wieder zurück zum Old Faithful und warteten gespannt. Tatsächlich ging es dann praktisch auf die Minute genau aus dem nichts los. Zuerst zischte es ein wenig, bevor dann die Wasserfontäne in die Luft schoss. Absolut beeindruckend so etwas zu erleben. Anschliessend ging unsere Fahrt weiter zum Grant Prismatic Pool, welche die grösste Thermalquelle Amerikas ist. Mit viel Glück ergatterten wir einen Parkplatz an der Strasse und liefen hinauf zum Aussichtspunkt. Die Farbenpracht war einfach unglaublich. Nach dem Spaziergang fuhren wir weiter zum Madison Campground, wo wir die dritte Nacht in Folge ohne jeglichen Telefon oder WiFi Empfang übernachteten.

Am Sonntag fuhren wir weiter in Richtung Norden (Canada war schon bald nicht mehr weit entfernt :) ) zu den Mammoth Hot Springs. Dort konnten wir weitere heisse Quellen beobachten. Speziell an diesen war, dass diese besonders hohe Kalk- und Mineralanteile hatten, wodurch sich eine Art Terrasse bildete. Anschliessend fuhren wir wieder zurück und hielten unterwegs am Norrise Geyser Basin an. Ja auch dort gab es weitere Quellen und Geysere - und ja der Yellowstone ist bekannt für diese Landschaft :)

Der bekannteste dort war der Steamboat-Geyser - der zurzeit grösste aktive Geyser der Welt. Seine Wasserfontäne kann bis zu 90m hoch sein. Jedoch bricht er nur sehr unregelmässig aus. Zwischen vier Tage und 50 Jahre ist alles möglich. Das letzte Mal brach er am 12. Juni 2019 aus - haben wir ihn also knapp verpasst.

Nach diesen Naturphänomen war unsere Yellowstone Zeit leider schon wieder vorbei und wir fuhren hinaus Richtung Westen an den Henry Lake um dort zu übernachten.

The campground in Grant Village was huge – it had more than 400 sites and the sites were super tight and not level but for our mini camper they were just fine. Saturday we drove a little deeper into the Yellowstone Nationalpark with the plan to see the Old Faithful Geyser – one oft he most famous ones on this planet. He errupts in avarage every 90 minutes and it can vary in height from with a max of about 55m. During the erruption he spits between 14'000 and 32'000 lites of cooking hot water. In the meanwhile they have a visitor terrance with benches to whitness this spectacular event.

We did arrive just shortly after he had errupted and therefor we took the in between time for short walk. Next to the Geyser one can observe a lot of other nature phenomena such as hotwater pool to which you do not wanna get close. Right on time we went back to the Old Faithful and waited..And indeed the show started almost on the minute quite unanncounced. First you could only hear a  sound and then you could see the wather fountain – absolutely facinating to experience such a thing (to see under videos on the map)

Later we continued tot he Grand Prismatic Pool which is as well the biggest thermal spring in the United States of America. With some luck we got a parking lot on the street and walked up tot he view point. The colours were just unbeliavable. After this nice walk we continued to the Madison Campground where we spent the third night in a row with no cell phone service. No WIFI either….

On Sunday we continued north (Canada was not so far away anymore.. 😉 ) tot he Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces. There we could observe some more Hot Springs like the name says. Special with those ones ist hat they had very high shares of Charlk and Minerals whereby they did build terraces. After that we drove back and stopped at the Norris Geyser Basin. And yes – there were more Springs and Geysers for which the Yellowstone Nationalpark is famous 😊

The most known Geyser in this Basin ist he Steamboat Geyser – the at the time biggest Geyser in the World. His fountain reaches a height of around 90m. However – he errupts on a very irregular basis whcih means between 4 days and 50 years and the last erruption happened on June 12th 2019 – we missed it for only a few days... ☹

After those nature phenomena our Yellowstone time was over and we drove west where we stopped at Henrys Lake State Park for the night.
